A Slice of English History
The Eight Bells pub in Abbotsley boasts a rich history dating back to the 18th century. According to local historical records, the establishment was founded in 1741, making it one of the oldest continuously operating pubs in the area.
Interestingly, the pub wasn't always known by its current name. It was originally called "Lantoffs" and was under the ownership of the Manor of Gamlingay. The property has passed through numerous hands over its nearly 300-year history, reflecting the changing nature of pub ownership in rural England.
Today, the Eight Bells stands as the only amenity in the affluent village of Abbotsley, serving as a vital community hub. The pub is situated on the main road through the village and maintains its historical character while operating as a modern establishment.
The building itself is a testament to 18th-century architecture, and recent recognition as an award-winning establishment speaks to its continued significance in the local community. The Eight Bells remains a cherished part of Abbotsley's heritage, combining its historical roots with contemporary hospitality.
